There is a museum park called Mud Island, downtown on the Mississippi River. There they have an eight-block long model of the Mississippi River which you can wade in. Because the contour of the model is like that of the actual river, it is easier to sit and stick your feet in it, rather than get sopping wet. The deepest part is on the lower end of the river. Just stick your feet in by Baton Rouge, and you can get wet up to about your knees. No one cares if you do. See http://www.mudisland.com/
